INJECTION THERAPY

We provide a range of injection therapies that can help alleviate you pain and improve function. The best injection for your circumstances would be discussed, explained and a joint decision taken. We offer the following injection types

  • Hyaluronic Acid

  • Combined Hyaluronic Acid With corticosteroid

  • Corticosteroid

Hyaluronic acid injections (viscosupplementation) lubricate joints, reducing pain and improving mobility in osteoarthritis. They are generally safer, with fewer side effects, but may take weeks to work and have variable effectiveness. Corticosteroid injections deliver anti-inflammatory medication directly into the joint, providing rapid pain relief and reducing inflammation. However, they can cause joint damage with repeated use, cartilage deterioration, and have potential side effects like infection or hormonal imbalance. Hyaluronic acid is ideal for long-term joint lubrication, while corticosteroids are better for short-term, acute inflammation. Choice depends on disease severity, response, and patient health.

We also offer corticosteroid injections for the treatment of chronic tendinopathy to rapidly reduce inflammation and alleviate pain, especially when conservative measures fail. They can provide significant short-term relief, improve function, and allow patients to resume activity more comfortably. These injections work by decreasing swelling and suppressing inflammatory processes within the tendon and surrounding tissues. However, repeated or high-dose corticosteroid use carries risks, such as weakening the tendon tissue, increasing the likelihood of rupture, or causing local tissue degeneration. Therefore, they are typically used judiciously and in combination with physical therapy, eccentric exercises, or other modalities to promote long-term tendon healing.
